Another spot to visit when in the Charleston area, is Magnolia Plantation. Sitting on the banks of the Ashley River, and surrounded by swamps, the plantation has plenty to see and do. From the extensive gardens, to the swamps filled with birds for even the most avid bird watcher, you can easily spend the better part of a day trying to take it all in. Be sure to take the tram tour of the grounds to get some interesting background on the property.
